• Independent study is an alternative education program that addresses individual student needs and learning styles. The model allows students to complete their academics outside the traditional classroom setting. Independent study is open to any student in transitional kindergarten through 12th grade. Furman High School and Furman Elementary offer students independent study as a continuous optional alternative instructional strategy by which students may reach MUSD curriculum objectives and fulfill graduation requirements.  It is unique in that each student is given an individualized educational plan in a variety of classroom settings (one-on-one, small group, online/virtual classes, tutorial, and supplemental support). Furman is a school of choice.  Students that enroll at Furman are transferred in from other independent study schools or take part in the district's transfer process. Furman students come from diverse backgrounds and needs that fall within the following:  Socio-emotional, health-related, behind in credits, young parents, etc. When a student enrolls here at Furman they are welcomed and given an amazing support system!
