• Madera Unified and George the Giraffe from Valley Children’s Deliver Books for National Family Literacy Month!!

Valley Children's mascot, George the Giraffe, surprised students at La Vina Elementary on Friday morning and delivered 300 books in honor of National Family Literacy Month. Valley Children’s Literacy Program and the Guilds Center for Community Health donated boxes of three different books - “George Make a Splash” and “George’s Counting Adventures,” which are printed in English and Spanish, and “Kids to Kids Choir,” written by former U.S. Poet Laureate and Valley native Juan Felipe Herrera.

Valley Children’s collaborated with Madera Unified on today’s special event, designed to promote a love of reading in the kids. Madera County also brought its Bookmobile to the campus today to encourage kids to sign up for free library cards and to allow them to check out books to read over Thanksgiving break.
