    Students explore and create art in various styles using the Four Artistic Processes: Creating, Presenting, Responding, and Connecting a means of communication, personal realization, historical and cultural connection, wellbeing, and community engagement. Lessons explore artists and styles from various cultures and teach techniques for the creation of personal and collaborative works of art.

    Elementary Music

    Students explore and create music in various styles using the Four Artistic Processes: Creating, Performing, Responding, and Connecting as a means of communication, personal realization, historical and cultural connection, wellbeing, and community engagement. There is an emphasis on singing, movement, and cultural competency that is important to all people. Composition and technique increasingly develop throughout the grades so that students are prepared to learn an instrument and join a band, choir, or orchestra by grade 4 if they choose. Instrumentation includes various pitched percussion, ukulele or guitar, recorder, and other instruments.

    Band courses emphasize the Performing process but also provide experiences in Creating and Responding.­ The Beginning program is designed for 1st and 2nd-year players. Instruction is offered on flute, clarinet, alto saxophone, trumpet, trombone, baritone, and pitched percussion. All instruments and resources are provided by the school at no cost to families. Students rehearse twice per week during the school day in small groups or as a whole band. The bands perform in various in-school and evening concerts throughout the year.

    Choir courses emphasize the Performing process but also provide experiences in Creating and Responding. The Beginning program is designed for 1st-year singers. Instruction may be divided among voice types. All resources are provided by the school at no cost to families. Students rehearse twice per week during the school day in small groups or as a large choir. Choirs perform in various in-school and evening concerts throughout the year.

    Strings (Grades 4-6)

    Strings courses emphasize the Performing process but also provide experiences in Creating and Responding.­ The Beginning program is designed for 1st and 2nd-year players. Instruction is offered on violin, viola, and cello. All instruments and resources are provided by the school at no cost to families. Students rehearse twice per week during the school day in small groups or as a whole ensemble. Strings ensembles perform in various in-school and evening concerts throughout the year.
