Leadership Descriptions

  • Drum Major Field- conduct the band at every rehearsal, football game, rally, competition and performance; attend every scheduled marching band function, including all rehearsals outside of the school day; serve every student with a passion and desire to ensure a positive experience for everyone; act as a liaison between the staff and students; expect to be the first person to arrive and the last to leave all band events so that you know the job is done right; take attendance and know where every member is at all times during rehearsals.

    Color guard Captain- set an example for the guard; be at every rehearsal; make sure all guard members understand the work; help every student with everything they can do; be positive and make the year a positive experience for everyone; act as a connection between the staff and students; expect to be the first person to arrive and the first one to leave at all guard events so that you know the job is done right; know where every member is at all times during rehearsals.

    President- plans and run meetings; communicate council discussions to the rest of the band if needed; stay in communication with Mr. Schmid about events, etc; oversee council projects; puts ideas together for projects and events; acts as a connection between the band and the band boosters; stays after school or stays up until late at night to finish projects for the band; attends band booster meetings; has an agenda of things to discuss at meetings.

    Vice President- plan and run meeting in the president's absence; aids the president in planning meetings; in charge of P.R. and Historian; makes sure all council members are on top of things and doing their jobs; attends booster meetings in the president’s absence.

    Treasurer- keeps a record of money in the Band Council account; communicate with the Booster treasurer regarding student accounts; collect money from fund raisers; knows how and what the band’s money is being spent on.

    Secretary- take notes during the meetings; help out president; make copies; put minutes on the band website; makes copies of agenda for all the band council to see at meetings.

    Historian- take pictures of the band and color guard; keep record of all dates, events, awards and other accomplishments; collect photos from parents and other students for year end scrapbook/CD; upload photos to band website; has a camera and takes camera to ALL band and color guard events; keeps records of all dates, events, awards, and other accomplishments the band has done throughout the year.

    Public Relations- make fliers/posters for upcoming events; get information from Schmid to the band and public; inform/ get informed from boosters of events; gets information from president at meeting and informs the band public; contact local radio station/ TV/ newspapers about HoCToC and other events; promote fund raisers and much, much more.

    Librarians- keep music/ files organized; have many copies; have originals and copies separate; be ready to hand out music when needed; knows how to make copies; have originals and copies separated; MUST have library clean and organized at ALL times.

     

    Equipment Manager- keeps track of instruments (database); create field set up schedule; keep track of field equipment; in charge of lockers; informs section when it is their turn to put yard markers on and off the field, equipment, ect; is present before and after practices to make sure everything is in the Penske, on and off the field.

     

    Percussion Representative- attends all meetings; informs percussion of all events; act as a connection between the staff and students; is in charge of maintaining the middle room and percussion room clean and organized; MUST know were all percussion drums and accessories, sticks and mallets are kept at ALL times.
