James Monroe Elementary School Home of the Mighty Bears
Dear Parents and Students,
Welcome to a new year and a new term. I hope everyone had a restful break and enjoyed a wonderful holiday period. It was an exciting end of term with many fantastic activities that brought the Monroe community together. We enjoyed the Mighty Monroe Give-Away back in November. Many families had the opportunity to come to school and choose various clothing and household items for free! We also recently enjoyed all the holiday performances by all the students at our school. Staff and parents were so very impressed with all their awesome performances. We then began celebrating the holidays with the Mighty Monroe Annual Lighting of the Museum. This was a wonderful opportunity for the Monroe community to come together and simply enjoy one another’s company, visit Santa, view an awesome performance by our local Folkloric Dancers, and then see the exciting Lighting of the Museum!!!
As we enter a new calendar year, and the second semester of the school year, the Mighty Monroe staff will continue to work collaboratively, set high goals and expectations for students, and strive for continuous improvement in all areas: academic, behavioral, attendance, social/emotional, and for students to feel engaged and safe at school. One major goal is for our students to look forward to attending school and learning lots as they work with their teacher and classmates. We are ALL on this educational journey together! WE ARE MIGHTY! We are, the Mighty Monroe Bears!
For the month of January, parent/teacher conferences will take place. This is an important time for teachers to share their student’s progress and goals, as well as for parents to ask questions, discuss how they can help their students, and develop short and long term plans for student achievement and success.
Finally, we ask our parents and guardians to consider getting more involved in your child’s school and education. There are opportunities to join School Site Council (SSC) and English Language Advisory Committee (ELAC) Meetings. Also, our Mighty Monroe Parent Club is always looking for ideas, feedback, and participation at their meetings and events. In addition, there are adult classes in our Parent Resource Center (PRC), which is located on campus. Simply come to the site and inquire to see if there are any classes you may be interested in.
Thank you to everyone who makes James Monroe an engaging, safe, respectful, and inspiring school for our students. We hope everyone has a wonderful NEW YEAR, and look forward to great things to come in the near future!
