    Students develop technical skills that empower them to communicate ideas visually, with an emphasis on exploration, analysis, and investigation of the creative process utilizing a wide variety of mediums.  Students will also study the history of art and will acquire knowledge that permits them to identify art styles and the time periods to which they belong.  Students develop an increased awareness of the nature of art and of their relationship to it as they explore the meaning and value of works of art.

    This course is open to students who have no experience playing an instrument.  No audition is necessary.  All band students are required to participate in scheduled performances. Students will be expected to practice for thirty minutes each day.

    Band: Symphonic (Advanced) | #10506
    AUDITION REQUIRED, (Grades 7-8)

    The Symphonic Band is open to students who demonstrate a high level of proficiency and interest in music.  Members of this group are selected by the recommendation of elementary school music teachers and middle school band teachers.  This band will perform at concerts, festivals, parades, community events, and clinics throughout Central California.  All band students are required to march in parades, which will include some after-school rehearsals.  Students will be expected to practice for thirty minutes each day.

    Band: Percussion | #10507
    (Grades 7-8)

    Percussion Band is for students with experience and no previous experience playing percussion instruments: bass drum, snare drum, cymbals, xylophone, vibes, mellophone, rhythm instruments. Percussionists participate in the percussion class and scheduled concert performances. All percussion students are expected to participate in competitive Winter Percussion and the Concert Percussion Ensemble. No audition is necessary.  

    Band: Jazz | #10524

    Jazz Band is open to all students who play, or are interested in learning, a traditional jazz instrument. Students must be concurrently enrolled in the appropriate instrumental music class during the school day in addition to their jazz class in order to participate in jazz band. Jazz Band is by audition only.

    Band: Mariachi | #10530
    (Grades 7-8)

    Mariachi Band is open to students who demonstrate an interest in playing various instruments such as the: tuba, bassoon, oboe, string bass, etc. which will enhance the understanding of the Mexican music genre from the region of Jalisco. Students in advanced ensembles will have a minimum of two concerts (Winter and Spring) some groups will perform additional concerts. Daily participation in the form of playing instruments and ensemble work will be expected. All concerts are mandatory and students to remain for the entire performance of all groups. No audition is necessary.  

    Choir | #10508
    (Grades 7-8)

    The Choir course is open to all students who are interested in music and choir performance.  The choir performs at the school site and district concerts,  community events, and festivals throughout Central California.  Students will learn singing techniques that develop tone quality, intonation, diction, breathing, rhythm, and note reading.

    String Orchestra | #NEW
    (Grades 7-8)

    This performance-based course provides students instruction on the violin, viola, cello, and double bass. Students will develop musicianship through sight-reading, instrumental technique, music theory, composition, and live performance. Students will study the historical and cultural aspects of music and learn to connect this to the musical works that are studied and performed.
