Why is it important?

  • Like all California schools, our district aligns our curriculum to state standards at each grade level. While standards give us an important starting point, it is easy to get lost in the details and miss the bigger picture of what colleges and employers are telling us are the most essential skills for success: the ability to think, communicate, collaborate, produce, adapt, and contribute. These skills cut across different fields of study, different industries, and different life settings. By supporting students to grow these skills and reflect on their progress, we are helping all students be future ready.

Our industry partners and leaders helped us to highlight the skills and abilities that students need for life beyond high school.  The elements we have chosen are items that employees need for success and advancement in their careers.  By teaching and having students reflect on these elements and skills during high school, they will be more prepared to enter the workforce.
