Standards for CA Public Schools Help Guide Instruction
CA Public Schools are required to provide 200 minutes of physical education (PE) instruction in elementary schools and 400 minutes of PE instruction in secondary schools every ten school days. MUSD students in grades one through twelve receive PE instruction from a credentialed PE teacher. MUSD requires students in grades seven and eight to be enrolled in PE. High school students must complete three years of PE in order to graduate. MUSD schools prohibit using physical activity as punishment and withholding PE class as punishment. Schools are encouraged to prohibit witholding recess as punishment to ensure an equitable educational experience.
