Madera USD utilizes the Whole School, Whole Community, Whole Child (WSCC) model developed by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in order to implement local, state, and federal wellness requirements for CA Public Schools.
The WSCC model has 10 components:
- Physical Education and Physical Activity
- Nutrition Environment and Services
- Health Education
- Social and Emotional School Climate
- Physical Environment
- Health Services
- Counseling, Psychological, and Social Services
- Employee Wellness
- Community Involvement
- Family Engagement

If you would like to be an active participant in the implementation of MUSD’s WSCC model, please become a member of the MUSD wellness committee and/or a local school health council. Meeting dates can be found on the PE and Wellness calendar. For more information regarding district wellness, committees, councils, and/or wellness events near you, please contact your MUSD school office or one of the following MUSD departments: Athletics and Physical Education, Child Nutrition, Health Services, or Student and Family Support Services.

5 Ways to Build a Successful School Health Team | Action for Healthy Kids | February 2021
Action for Healthy Kids enlisted Roxanne Schallberger, a 6th grade teacher from James Madison Elementary School in MUSD, to share how she created a School Health Team, known as a School Health Council in the MUSD Wellness Policy, that is successfully implementing and promoting initiatives to make Madison a healthier school. Congratulations Mavericks!!!
