Communicable disease is one of the leading causes of childhood morbidity and school absence. MUSD follows guidelines set by the California State Department of Health Care Services in determining if an ill student can remain in school or must be temporarily excluded from school.
Students and staff with a communicable disease, which can be transmitted directly or indirectly to other students and staff, require special consideration in the school setting. Some steps taken by health services include:
-
Preventative measures to protect the health of all students and staff
-
Monitoring the immunization status of students
-
Procedures for immediate care of students and staff that develop a potentially communicable disease
-
Protecting students with special health conditions from exposure
-
Participation in community infectious disease surveillance programs in partnership with Madera County Department of Public Health
